Why Every Young Researcher Should Watch Darren Lipomi’s Talks

I want to highlight someone whose work and online presence have had a meaningful impact on how I think about academic life: Prof. Darren J. Lipomi, a faculty member at the University of Rochester. I first came across his videos almost by accident on YouTube, at a time when I was preparing for the next phase of my academic career and thinking seriously about the transition from postdoc to faculty.

Over the past few years, Prof. Lipomi has created an exceptional collection of talks covering topics that nearly every researcher encounters at some point—writing strong statements, contacting potential advisors, applying to graduate school, and navigating academic careers more broadly.
